The Aim of our Charity

A bit about BHACC

LISTEN - EDUCATE - SUPPORT

Better Hearing Australia Central Coast Inc. BHACC aims to support all people in the community through their hearing loss journey.

Hearing loss for many people can be a source of frustration and embarrassment, often leading to social withdrawal. The consequent isolation may result in mental health issues such as loneliness and depression, and recent research confirms a significant association between hearing loss, cognitive impairment, and the risk of dementia.

BHACC encourages individuals with hearing loss to engage in social experiences and activities in a supportive environment. We believe that through shared experiences, lives can be changed, and quality of lives improved.

We are always happy to welcome new members and volunteers who want to make a difference to the lives of others.

Hearing Loss

Hearing loss affects many in our community – not only the person with the loss.  It is a considerable difficulty for family members, friends, and the community and needs adjustment from all to manage the difficulties.

Some of the many causes of hearing loss can be malformation, medical, exposure to loud noise, and of course, the ageing process.  Whatever the cause, help is needed and is available in learning to manage this condition.

The strain of impaired hearing has to be borne all day and is a constant drain on the energy.  The HoH (hard of hearing) person is often exhausted, has headaches and constantly worried about their response to questions, they so often withdraw and isolate themselves from their communities and social life in general.  This is something that we at BHACC seek to change so that the HoH can lead a life that is as full and as inclusive as possible.
