Volunteer
Supporting the Hard of Hearing on the Coast since 1977

Thinking of Volunteering?
We are always looking for people with or without a hearing impairment to assist us in our work of supporting the 1 in 6 people on the Central Coast with hearing loss.
- Become a member – to be involved in annual events like Hearing Awareness Week and the NSW Seniors Festival, man a table at functions or just help promote us.
- Join the Management Committee – to assist in the management of the branch
- Become a Hearing Loss Management Support Group Leader – If training is required this can be arranged.
Volunteer as a HLM Group Leader
We are always looking for people to volunteer some of their time to assist us to help those with a hearing loss and to achieve this we would give them all the assistance and support needed. There are many benefits to doing this work – meeting and making firm friends, knowing that you are assisting not only the person with the hearing loss but also their family, friends, and communities, knowing that you are making an impact on the hearing health of others.
It does involve quite a bit of study which is rewarding in itself. You would work through a self-paced Training Manual with all assistance required given from the current Group Leaders.
Among the topics covered are knowledge of the ear, the effects of hearing loss, communication with those who are hard-of-hearing, teaching lip reading and hearing loss management, learning about hearing aids, cochlear implants, and assistive listening devices.
You would learn how to lead a group and help with preparation of lesson plans.
If you have had any prior learning in this field or are interested in learning more about the work involved, please contact the Central Coast Branch of Better Hearing Australia.
